Broadband Indiana is a family owned and operated company that provides wireless high speed Internet service to outlying areas that have few viable options for fast broadband Internet access. Using proven wireless technology, Broadband Indiana is able to serve rural areas with high speed Internet access.
The idea started in the summer of 2004 when I, Ben Stallions, began investigating high speed Internet options at my residence 5 miles northwest of Martinsville. DSL and cable modem service were not available and satellite Internet was overpriced for it's unreliable service.
From my TV antenna tower I could see the cable company's tower 3 miles away and knew that cable modem service was available there. So I began looking into wireless technology to bridge the 3 mile span.
About the same time Darrel Potter with SCICAN, a local non-for-profit dial-up company, talked to me about the efforts SCICAN was making to launch a wireless service with limited success. He asked me if I would attend their next board meeting and talk with them about wireless, which I agreed to. At the end of that meeting I agreed to volunteer my time trying to help them with their wireless network. In exchange I would have free unlimited high speed Internet access.
Over the next six months extensive testing took place with all types of wireless equipment in calm to severe weather conditions and at distances up to 15 miles from the access point locations (towers). I finally settled on the type of wireless equipment we would use from that point forward.
Over the next 2 1/2 years we expanded the wireless network all across the county and now have 17 access point locations. We've worked very hard to provide this service to Morgan County and we'd love to have you as our customer!
